As the Official Partner of ‘Gift of Hope’, AXA Singapore pledged donations towards the Cancer cause and gathered about 120 distributors to volunteer their time at the Carnival at VivoCity on 17 May Saturday between 11am to 9pm. AXA's partnership with the Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) started in 2013 where a large part of AXA distributors volunteered their services as AXA-SCS Cancer Ambassadors to help with raising awareness and educating the public about Cancer Risk.
As part of preparations for this Carnival, AXA joined a group of cancer survivors to volunteer and packed 150 limited edition ‘Gift of Hope’ bears. These bears will be sold at the Carnival to raise funds for cancer efforts under SCS.
“As a worldwide leader in insurance, we research and study the risks faced by the societies in the countries we operate in and try to find solutions to alleviate the hardship of people who suffer from these risks. We also feel that it is our responsibility to contribute to society by helping out in educational efforts in risk prevention as much as possible. In Singapore, it is clear to us that Cancer is a very important topic that needs attention. 1 in 3 Singaporeans die of Cancer and on average 1 person is diagnosed with Cancer every hour. We believe much more can be done with educating the public on the importance of early detection to increase the chances of recovery from Cancer,” said Kwek Perroy Li Choo, Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer for AXA Singapore. “Our partnership with the Singapore Cancer Society is our commitment to help with public education efforts on Cancer risks. This is also a very good opportunity for our staff to volunteer towards a worthy cause to raise the importance of early cancer detection.”
Visitors at the ‘Gift of Hope’ Carnival will participate in various game booths and activities. They are also encouraged to take a “Pledge for Life”, to make a commitment to join the fight against cancer by donating their time to volunteer in cancer awareness and education programmes, lending their skills, and staying healthy.
“SCS is grateful for the generous sponsorship extended by AXA for the ‘Gift of Hope’ Carnival. Through partnerships such as these, and through community enragement events like our ‘Gift of Hope’ Carnival, we are able to send a strong collective signal that no one stands alone in the fight against cancer,” said Albert Ching, Chief Executive Officer, SCS.
