Singapore employees to join colleagues in 57 countries to let their feet do the talking.
Into its second consecutive year, AXA’s Corporate Responsibility Week this year will mobilize over 163,000 employees around the world to walk, run or cycle in a global effort to support People Protection. For every kilometre covered by every single staff member participating in this endeavour, AXA will contribute €1 to an AXA Hearts in Action risk education project in the respective markets. In Singapore, close to 500 of AXA’s staff will walk, cycle and run on 12 June to raise money for Melrose Home, AXA’s adopted charity in Singapore.
During Corporate Responsibility Week, which is from 11 to 15 June 2012, AXA will also be conducting a series of activities targeted at employees, customers, shareholders and the community to reinforce the importance of doing business in a sustainable and responsible way, and raising awareness.
As part of its outreach to the community, AXA will be inviting children from Melrose Home to AXA Tower for an educational workshop on the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). This coincides with the Junior Achievement (JA) programme, part of the company’s new initiative to raise risk awareness at an early age. A non-profit organization that aims to inspire youths, JA aims to equip youths with technical and soft skills training required to succeed in an increasingly complex and volatile world. By helping young people between the ages of 7-18 years understand the risks associated with certain financial choices, AXA hopes to teach them about ways to achieve better financial stability and protection against life’s unexpected events.
Kwek Perroy Li Choo, Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer, AXA Singapore says “I’m heartened to see the continued commitment of AXA’s staff to Corporate Responsibility week. Because we are in the business of protection, it’s important that we demonstrate a commitment to environmental sustainability and risk awareness. At AXA, we are committed to improving the way we do business and are determined to use our risk expertise to help us help the communities we operate within.”
Alex Kimura, Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer for AXA Asia says “I am very pleased with the engagement of all employees across AXA Asia. Over 3,000 employees signed up for the AXA Global Challenge to join their colleagues around the world to raise funds for a worthy cause. Corporate Responsibility is integral to our strategy in Asia as it is a key driver of employee engagement and trust, which furthers our ambition in becoming the preferred company for employees and winning the trust of customers, as CR is an increasingly significant driver of brand trust.”
AXA is committed to reducing its carbon footprint. The 2011 environmental tracking survey shows that in Asia alone, among the eight entities, employees reduced their CO2 emission by 44 per cent and Power Consumption by 29 per cent since 2008. In addition, AXA has reduced business travels by 55 per cent since 2008, mostly through the better use of telephone conference facilities. This success is achieved through the conscious efforts of every employee in their daily activities.
This latest initiative comes on the heels of the company’s investment in the AXA-NTU Chair in Natural Hazards for research on risks related to natural hazards and environmental uncertainty.
About AXA’s Corporate Responsibility strategy
AXA's strategy is to place Corporate Responsibility both at the heart of its business as well as its day to day interactions with its stakeholders. It is through adopting responsible behaviour that the Group is able to most effectively participate in social, environmental and economic progress. The Group’s corporate responsibility policy flagship is on risk research and education, and this commitment includes three key initiatives:
- Volunteer work, carried out through the AXA Hearts in Action international solidarity organization for 20 years. In 2010, over 23,000 employees volunteered in over 6,000 charity projects around the world.
- Scientific philanthropy, through the AXA Research Fund, which is endowed with a five-year budget of €100 million
- Risk prevention and education, in particular through the partnership with CARE, an international humanitarian NGO.
