Following the successful application/renewal of Work Permit for your foreign domestic helper, the Immigration Department would require you to:

  • Submit a security deposit of S$5,000. This can be in the form of Cash, Banker’s or Insurance Guarantee.
  • Provide Personal Accident insurance and medical benefits (including medical treatment and hospitalisation expenses) for your domestic helper.

Essential Covers

SmartHelper covers domestic helpers from Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh, these countries are sources approved by the Ministry of Manpower. This insurance protection fully complies with the Philippine Embassy's requirements.

Summary of the essential covers for a period of 26 months:

1. Insurance Guarantee

The Insurance Guarantee replaces the S$5,000 security deposit to be submitted to the Controller of Immigration. To issue this guarantee:

  • a Letter of Indemnity is to be executed by you, the employer.
  • if you are a foreigner, a local referee is required. Referee can either be a Singaporean/permanent resident or an acceptable company in Singapore. The referee will assist the Insurer to contact the employer should the need arises.

2. Personal Accident Insurance for your Domestic Helper

24-hour worldwide cover (except when on home leave) for death and permanent disability resulting from an accident. This includes reimbursement of medical expenses incurred for treatment of accidental injury.

3. Repatriation Expenses

Full reimbursement of cost to repatriate your domestic helper to her home country, in the event of death or permanent disablement, due to any cause including suicide, natural or unexplained causes, etc.
Repatriation services must be provided by HENG-GREF Medical Supplies & Services Pte Ltd, otherwise, the limit for this cover of S$3,000 will apply.

4. Hospitalisation & Surgical Expenses

Reimbursement of all charges necessarily incurred by your domestic helper as an In-patient in any Singapore government/restructured hospital.

5. Wages Reimbursement

Should your domestic helper be hospitalised as per (4) above, her salary will be reimbursed for the actual period of the hospitalisation up to S$30 per day for a maximum period of 60 days.

6. Re-Hiring Expenses

We will reimburse the Insured the agency fees incurred in hiring a replacement domestic helper up to $500 as a result of termination of the Insured's services following death or permanent disablement of the Insured Person as a result of an accident and/or illness.

7. Security Bond Protection

We will reimburse the Insured up to the amount in the schedule if during the period of insurance the Insured’s Letter of Guarantee, which has been effected in lieu of the security deposit required by the Controller of Immigration, is forfeited due to any breach by the domestic maid of the conditions of the Security Bond imposed by the Controller under Regulation 21 of Chapter 133 of the Immigration Act, including her unexplained disappearance.

Coverages


1. Insurance Guarantee - A Letter of Guarantee of $5,000 to the Controller of Immigration.

2. Personal Accident -
a) Accident Death - Up to $40,000.00
b) Permanent Disablement - Up to $40,000.00
c) Medical Expenses - Reimbursement up to $3,000 & up to $200 for TCM treatment.

3. Repatriation Expenses - Will reimburse costs IN FULL to repatriate the maid to her home country in the event of death or permanent disablement due to ANY CAUSE ("Plus" Policies Only) including suicide, natural or unexplained causes, etc., when the necessary services are provided by Heng-Gref Emergency Medical Assistance Pte Ltd. OTHERWISE, the limit of cover is $3,000.00

4. Hospitalisation & Surgical In-Patient Expense Including Day Surgery -
a) Reimburses charges necessarily incurred as an in-patient in any registered hospital in Singapore.
b) Our policy covers SARS and H1N1 and takes effect immediately upon issue. There is no waiting or grace period

5. Wages Reimbursement - Should the maid be hospitalised as per (4) above, the maid's salary will be reimbursed up to the amount stated in the table above.

6. Re-Hiring Expenses - Will reimburse the the Insured the agency fees incurred in hiring a replacement domestic helper up to $500 as a result of termination of the Insured's services following death or permanent disablement of the Insured Person as a result of an accident and/or illness .

7. Domestic Helper's Liability - Will reimburse the Insured Person up to $5,000 if she may become legally liable to pay compensation as a result of any accidental bodily injury or death caused to third parties and/or accidental damage to their property including all costs and expenses of litigation relating to the above within the Period of Insurance.

8. Security Bond Protector - Will reimburse the Employer for the loss of his/her Security Bond, if the Security Bond is forfeited by Ministry of Manpower, Singapore due to the Maid's breach of the condition of the Security Bond subject to an excess stated in the Schedule.
